Game Developers Conference 2013

This weekend, after a month of pretty intense work, we put the finishing touches to our GDC 2013 demo. The Game Developers Conference is being held March 25 - 29, at the Moscone Convention Centre, San Francisco, and Secret Lunch will be there! Paul is all packaged up to be posted there along with a copy of our demo. If you’re attending the convention, you can contact him and arrange to see Shu for yourself.

The demo is around ten minutes long and is entirely made up of new content. It’ll be the first time we get to show off our new level, characters, and a bunch of mechanics that didn’t make it into the teaser back in December. We’re excited to let people play it and to get feedback from the public - that means you, too; The demo will be available to download in good time, but for now have some screenshots to whet your appetite.

Remember to get involved with all our social media whatnots (Twitter, Facebook, Steam Greenlight) and, if you’re going to GDC, get in touch with Paul and come have a look. If you aren’t, keep your eyes peeled for any Secret Lunch coverage that may occur.

The Nest

Over the past few weeks we have been working on “The Nest”: a recently abandoned, tumbledown village built into the face of a mountain. Though the occupants have fled the village before the coming storm, they have been forced to leave behind their possessions allowing us to showcase the culture of The Nest in their absence.

Steam Greenlight & Shu's New Look

Just before Christmas we set up a Steam Greenlight page and promptly went about telling nobody it existed. We're only in the concept phase, so we're not getting voted on to Steam just yet, but it's a great venue for people to show their support and for us to get feedback from the community. If you have a Steam account, and are so inclined, head over and give us a thumbs up.

In additional newer news, Shu has been redesigned. I felt he needed to look more dynamic, with more personality showing through his movement. And hands. He needed hands. With fingers. (Hands not pictured... they're under the cloak when he idles.) So here he is, the brand new Shu:

Shu 2013

First day back in the office today for Secret Lunch, some exciting plans hatching right now that we can't wait to share. We hope you enjoyed the first glimpse into Shu's world, we can't wait to share more. And have you seen IGN's lovely version starring Shu Yoshida of Sony?

Shu Teaser Released

Today is the end of the world. Today is also the day that we released the first footage of our current project Shu, which coincidentally is about a world ending cataclysm just like the one that isn't happening right this very second.

The teaser represents just over a month's worth of work from conception to final cut, and everything in it has already gone through a few iterations. We learned some neat little tricks along the way, as well as some lessons about setting goals, meeting deadlines and what we're capable of as a team.

Today is also our last day at Secret Lunch before the Chrismas holidays, and we're all looking forward to going south of the Wall for a nice break. When we come back in 2013, rejuvenated and overweight, we'll be starting a brand new phase of the project, and you'll be hearing a lot more from us. I wont go into specifics - many a blog starts off with a retrospectively tragic mission statement promising multiple posts a week - but we're looking to have an array of different content going onto the site. We'll make sure there's stuff for you to look at in between the teaser, the trailer, the demo, and the finished game.
